QUICK ANSWER

A professional vinyl wrap takes 2–5 days for a full vehicle and 4 hours to 1 day for a partial wrap. Plan for 1–3 weeks total from quote to driving away: 1 day for consultation and design, 3–5 days for prep and installation, and 24–48 hours of curing before washing or hard driving.

02 / STEP 1: CONSULTATION, COLOR SELECTION, SAMPLE SWATCHES

Step 1: Consultation, color selection, sample swatches

Walk-in or video. We bring out actual swatches of the films you are considering — 3M 2080, Avery SW900, Inozetek Super Gloss, KPMF, color PPF — and put them on the vehicle in your color. Direct sun, shop fluorescent, in shadow. Most colors look entirely different in the three lighting conditions.

We also walk through what is included (panel removal, badges, mirror caps, weatherstripping) and what is not (paint correction, ceramic coating, PPF). If you want to add any of those, they get quoted on the same paper.

03 / STEP 2: PREP — CLAY BAR, PANEL REMOVAL, DECONTAMINATION

Step 2: Prep — clay bar, panel removal, decontamination

Prep is where wraps that last 7 years separate from wraps that fail in 18 months. Our prep workflow is the same on a $40k Model 3 as on a $230k 911:

  1. 01Hand wash with pH-neutral soap and decontaminate the entire vehicle.
  2. 02Clay bar to remove embedded contaminants from the clear coat.
  3. 03Iron remover where rail dust or industrial fallout is present.
  4. 04Full IPA wipe-down panel by panel before vinyl touches the surface.
  5. 05Removal of badges, door handles, mirror caps, taillight surrounds, weatherstripping, and license plate hardware where reasonable.
  6. 06Final inspection for paint defects we will need to plan around.
04 / STEP 3: INSTALLATION — HEAT, SQUEEGEE, EDGE TUCKING

Step 3: Installation — heat, squeegee, edge tucking

Installation runs 3–5 days for a full wrap depending on vehicle size and finish. The vinyl is cut from rolls or pre-plotted patterns, hand-laid to the panel, heated to relax, squeegeed flat, and edge-tucked behind body lines and panel seams.

We do single-piece panels wherever the body line allows it. For panels that require seaming (some hoods, tailgates, large bedside graphics), seams are placed in body line shadows where they disappear from 3 feet.

Edge tucking is the difference between a wrap that lasts and one that fails. Every panel edge gets the vinyl tucked behind a seam, weatherstrip, or body line, then heat-set with a torch and post-heated again at the end of the panel.

05 / STEP 4: INSPECTION AND CURING

Step 4: Inspection and curing

Once all panels are installed, the vehicle stays at the studio for 24–48 hours of curing. The cast vinyl needs ambient temperature and time to fully set its adhesive. We use that window to inspect every panel under shop lights and direct sun, post-heat any edges that need it, and reinstall removed hardware.

First wash should be hand-only and not for at least 7 days after install. Edge-cure on PPF takes ~30 days; edge-cure on cast vinyl is faster but still benefits from a week of low-stress driving.

06 / HOW TO PREP YOUR CAR BEFORE DROP-OFF

How to prep your car before drop-off

  • Hand wash the vehicle the day before drop-off — saves us a wash cycle.
  • Remove personal items, dashboard documents, parking permits, child seats.
  • Top up fuel to at least 1/4 tank (we may move the car around the lot).
  • Bring all keys/fobs.
  • Note any pre-existing paint defects at drop-off so we can document them on the intake sheet.
  • If you have aftermarket parts (lip kits, splitters, vents) and want them wrapped, mention at quote.
07 / WHAT CAN GO WRONG (AND WHY BRAND-CERTIFIED SHOPS AVOID IT)

What can go wrong (and why brand-certified shops avoid it)

Edge lifting at panel seams

Caused by under-heated edges or skipped panel disassembly. We post-heat every edge twice and tuck behind weatherstripping where reasonable.

Bubbles and silvering

Caused by trapped air in calendared (cheap) vinyl or rushed installs. Cast vinyl from 3M, Avery, and Inozetek has air-release channels designed to prevent this. We only run cast vinyl on automotive installs.

Color drift between panels

Caused by mixing rolls from different production batches mid-install. We order all material for a single project from one batch number.

Adhesive failure in summer heat

Caused by under-cured vinyl (short curing time, low ambient temp at install). We control studio temperature year-round and never release a wrap before edge-cure is complete.

08 / AFTER YOUR WRAP — FIRST WASH, FIRST LONG DRIVE, FIRST STORM

After your wrap — first wash, first long drive, first storm

  • First wash: 7 days minimum, hand-only, pH-neutral soap.
  • First long drive: Anytime — wraps are road-ready at pickup.
  • First storm: Fine. Wraps are waterproof at install.
  • First pressure-wash: 30 days after install. Stay 12 inches away with a fan tip.
  • First ceramic top-up: 30 days after install if you opted to add ceramic.
  • First post-install inspection: Free 30-day check at our shop. Bring it back; we will inspect every edge and do any needed touch-up at no charge.

FAQ / COMMON QUESTIONS

Things you might ask.

How long does it take to wrap a car?+

A full vinyl wrap takes 3–5 business days for sedans and coupes, 4–6 for SUVs and trucks. Partial wraps run 4 hours to 1 day. Total time from quote to keys back is typically 1–3 weeks including consultation, booking, and 24–48 hours of curing.

Do I need to drop my car off for the whole time?+

Yes. We need the vehicle at the studio for the full duration to maintain controlled temperature and humidity through prep, install, and curing. We can help arrange a rental or rideshare if needed.

What should I do before bringing my car in?+

Hand wash the vehicle the day before, remove personal items and child seats, top up fuel to at least 1/4 tank, bring all keys/fobs, and note any pre-existing paint defects so we can document them on the intake sheet.

How soon after install can I wash my car?+

Wait 7 days for a hand wash. Wait 30 days before pressure washing, and stay 12 inches away with a fan tip. Vinyl is waterproof at install — rain on day 1 is fine — but pressure water on uncured edges can lift them.

Do you offer pickup and delivery in Atlanta?+

Yes, by appointment. Mobile consults across north metro Atlanta — Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Marietta, Cumming — are free. Pickup and delivery for the install itself is available within a 30-mile radius of our Woodstock studio for a flat fee.
